Intro: Well a belated Happy Earth Day everyone! I hadn't forgotten it as I was already doing a trade focused on this day on Facebook. I just didn't get a chance to post about it here yet. So with this great day I bring some new things for us to look at!
What I created: I made 2 ATCs for a trade on a Facebook group called Studio A B See. We all sign up and afterwards are randomly assigned partners that we mail 2 ATCs out to going with the theme of that month. The theme was "grow" but I already knew Earth Day was in April as well so I thought "what better way to show a growth theme than to focus on Earth". I wanted to make these cards special just because I was feeling really connected to the theme...and thus I gave myself some opportunities for growth (and learning). YSH: Your Subject Here (or for those on dA this is the Your Character Here image)... I have been wanting to release some of these as options for commissions and decided to attempt it when I first did the hands. I originally planned some dirt with a small plant taking form in the hands but scratched that idea once the hands were completely drawn out. Instead, I saved a scanned copy of just the hands to use as a YCH image. For those that are not used to these terms: typically an artist can create a pose or a background and post it up for anyone who wants to commission the same art being drawn again but changed a bit. In some cases (like with a pose) you edit the character to look like what the commissioner wants while keeping the pose. In other cases you just have a background that you can get a character (or more than one) place in the background. 2D/3D Elements: The small hill with a person standing on top was going to be the second card but I decided to combine the two instead. When I started sketching this person and hill I wanted them to somehow pop out because of the small size that they were made as. This of course got me so excited that I ended up wanting to use the same method on the second card. I made some roses... 8 at first and found that they were so natural to make that I just kept making till I had a total of 30 roses made. I only used 8 on the second card but started planning on more trees of different colors for the other roses. I have some ideas in mind so be on a look out! Shimmering Paint: I have been watching plenty of calligraphy artists an even ATC makers who use shimmer paints to add small touches to their art. I have been waiting for the right art piece to come along to test this out on. I found it worked best with the rose leaves but stuck to the shimmer paint on my Steampunk cards as well. I think using these can be great if done for tiny details, but not so great for bigger areas as they tend to be flat in photographs and scans. Final thoughts: Plenty of experiments happened in this set... I need to get better cutting tools for one! I also need to get nib pens to work with the shimmer paints as brushes tend to have small moments of misery. I do think I like making cute mice and bunnies now...

Intro: a bit late I know but I never got around to taking an image of this just because I was struggling with what words to use on the back. I completed the back and even gave this to my husband but then never got around to sharing it with everyone. What I created: the postcard-making-bug was still infecting me and so I ended up preparing the front of one card, backs of 3 cards, plus completing this postcard for my husband all during February. I learned how to age the postcards using Distress Ink which has now been carried over for all of them. I do believe that I'll never leave the back of a postcard blank now. I have only done that to my first postcard. This was my first attempt to work with scrapbook paper to assemble something. Finished product is a Valentines postcard given to my husband (and made for him). Happy valentines day to this blog! And a very happy valentines day to everyone who reads any posts here! =)
Intro: This swap on ATCsForAll focused on bizarre holidays from around the world in February. We had to select holidays to illustrate from a list that was provided. It did not have all of the holidays listed and thus we were really limited. And no, the holidays were not all bizarre like the title says. If I remember correctly, there were no bizarre holidays for February at all.
What I created: I made all three cards out of watercolor plus added details using LePen marker and white gel pen. As I am preoccupied with other swaps, 29 Faces challenge, and personal trades I did not get a chance to create more cards. I was originally going to do 5 or 6 but ran out of time. Even though the swap deadline is three weeks away I just have too many swaps that end at the same time as this one. Enjoy! Intro: I had previously created 12 twinchies for this series (Valentine 2017 Series) and decided I wanted to create a few ATCs while the season is still around I'll be re-porting these two ATCs when I upload new ATCs in this series. What I created: I just wanted to share these while I could (before I forget). I wanted to try a new technique which I used in the "Board Hearts" ATC. I simply used watercolor to paint the background and then created designs in marker on top once it was dry. On a separate sheet I used watercolor to just lay down a bunch of pinks and reds with no intention to create a pattern. Once that dried up I cut it into strips (0.20"x3.0"). I then laid them down and drew a heart shape onto the strips...which I then cut and glued on the background. I really liked this idea that I used... I am thinking about creating some collage pieces with this technique. The second ATC was a combination of two Valentine themed sugar cookies that I saw on Google. they were depicting Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe but I decided to combine them together to create my own version of a poster that I really like: Further thoughts: I think the trick that I used to create a double layer for the "Board Hearts" could be quite useful in coming up with my own unique "style" so to speak. I am going to continue making ATCs and other sized art for this series so I'll post them upon completion. These two cards are currently available for trade (view their status).
I already have signed up for a few more swaps with themes all across the board: animals, songbirds holidays, and so on. i'll post those ATCs once I complete them. I am also preparing for the #29face challenge that start in February (just around the corner). Intro: I decided to use the rest of the page that I created my works for the Valentine Twinchies Swap. I ended up making eight more twinchies and three domino tiles.
What I created: The twinchies continue the theme of Valentine's Day and hearts from the swap. I used Valentine themed cookies as inspiration for the hearts that I made. I also created rose flowers on three small sections that were left over (1"x2"). I have been wanting to dedicate art to the Beauty and the Beast story from Disney for a few months now but just could not come up with what to create. Seeing as I had practiced making a rose using a tiny brush already on one of the twinchies I decided to create just that... the rose given by the evil fairy in the story. Because I already had three tiles that I randomly put down gradient colors on I decided to paint the same rose in different colors on the other two. The hearts are a continuous part of the Valentine 2017 Series as I might still continue to make more art with that theme. Note: All of these are currently available for trading/swaps except for the red rose tile. I might end up using a few of these to create a cover page for a journal but in the meantime everything is available. Domino Tiles: A little bit about Domino Tiles... First here is an example of domino tile art found on Etsy. When referring to domino tiles it can mean work created right on top of a normal domino tile or a tile that is domino tile sized. The dimensions should be 1"x2" in order for it to be considered as a domino tile. Some artists even complete a collection and create Domino Books. I'll be writing more about this when I create a Domino Book of my own but for the moment I leave you with just this information. Feel free to Google Domino Books if you want to know more about them. YouTube also has tutorials on making them too. Intro: My first twinchies were created as part of the Valentine Twinchies Swap. These are 2"x2" as the name states.
What I created: I made 4 twinchies for this swap - one for the host as a gift and three for the actual swap. All of them were done in watercolor with details added on using a white gel pen, Le Pen marker, and Puffy Bead Paint. All four have been mailed off...now waiting on my swaps. |
Author: RejiI used to be a digital artist but switched back to traditional art as I feel more connected with the art I create this way. Currently, I create art whenever I can for art trades and commissions. I have worked with clay (earth clay to modern forms like Polymer, Sculpey, even Air Dry clay) along with watercolors, acrylics, oil paints, pastels, charcoal, pen and pencil drawings, India ink, Chinese Colors, wires, felt fabric, yarn, weaving, basket making, and the list goes on and on. I am currently working on exploring nail art, make-up, dress making, scrapbooking, and small canvas art. Archives
